چکیده

The objective of the present work is to extend the adjoint-based error estimate and the adaptive mesh refinement algorithm of the high-order CPR method to the 3D NavierStokes equations. A dual-consistent high-order correction procedure via reconstruction method is utilized to obtain the adjoint solution and derive the output-based local error indicator. Several inviscid and viscous flow cases are utilized to evaluate the effectiveness of the present adaptive method. Numerical tests show that significant savings in the number of DOFs can be achieved through the present method.

Incompressible laminar flow computations by an upwind least-squares meshless method

In this paper, the laminar incompressible flow equations are solved by an upwind least-squares meshless method. Due to the difficulties in generating quality meshes, particularly in complex geometries, a meshless method is increasingly used as a new numerical tool. The meshless methods only use clouds of nodes to influence the domain of every node. Thus, they do not require the nodes to be conn...

Anisotropic Simplex Mesh Adaptation by Metric Optimization for Higher-order Dg Discretizations of 3d Compressible Flows

We extend our optimization-based framework for anisotropic simplex mesh adaptation to three dimensions and apply it to high-order discontinuous Galerkin discretizations of steady-state aerodynamic flows. The framework iterates toward a mesh that minimizes the output error for a given number of degrees of freedom by considering a continuous optimization problem of the Riemannian metric field. Th...

AFRL-AFOSR-VA-TR-2015-0403 The Development of High-Order Methods for Real World Applications

With increased computational power and progress in numerical methods over the past several decades, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is now used routinely as a powerful tool in the design of aircraft. Current production CFD codes used in the aerospace industry are usually second order accurate. High-order methods have the potential to achieve higher accuracy at less cost than low-order method...

Output-based mesh adaptation for high order Navier-Stokes simulations on deformable domains

We present an output-based mesh adaptation strategy for Navier-Stokes simulations on deforming domains. The equations are solved with an arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) approach, using a discontinuous Galerkin finiteelement discretization in both space and time. Discrete unsteady adjoint solutions, derived for both the state and the geometric conservation law, provide output error estimates...

A High-Order Unifying Discontinuous Formulation for the Navier-Stokes Equations on 3D Mixed Grids

The newly developed unifying discontinuous formulation named the correction procedure via reconstruction (CPR) for conservation laws is extended to solve the Navier-Stokes equations for 3D mixed grids. In the current development, tetrahedrons and triangular prisms are considered. The CPR method can unify several popular high order methods including the discontinuous Galerkin and the spectral vo...
